Sian from Models 1

Whilst perusing some new blogs I came across this on Style Slicker. Sian, the lovely girl who modelled for the Fresh Direction Magazine shoot I did in September has landed a job as the new face of Elizabeth Lau SS11. Very proud.

Blog

Recently Ive started to 'Follow' other blogs (one day I'll have a 'follow' button of my own but for now you'll have to make do with my very irregular blog snippets).

I have totally fallen in love with this blog-
http://calivintage.blogspot.com/

Erin blogs likes she's chatting to her mates, which is what I'd like my blog to be like.. except at the moment I am just chatting to my mates cos they're the only ones reading this :)

Her style is quirky but not forced, she always looks at ease in her outfits and she doesn't just write about fashion.

She also has a cool bike.

Fresh Direction

This week I styled a three page story for Fresh Direction, a free student mag which should be out in a few weeks. Here's a few shots from it. The photographer is Phillip Waterman.

Sorry for my sporadic blogging- I'm back now and will write at least a few times a week.

AW Shoot at Soho house: Preview

As promised, a few pics from last Sundays shoot.

My Mom the Style Icon

I discovered this genius blog called My Mom the Style Icon via an article in The Guardian and emailed some old photographs of my parents over to Piper Weiss. She posted them on both her blogs:

Made my fucking day. Cheers Piper!

The Detachable Collar Necklace.

Time for another shoot (sunday, 1st August) and this one is based on accessories and props and will be more experimental in style than any previous shoots I have done. It should be really fun and I will go into more details in a future post. I just wanted to blog about my latest creation: the detachable collar necklace.. okay not a very catchy name. I was inspired to make this whilst perusing Frankles Trimmings yesterday. The collar is held togther with thin black elastic, you can wear it with a plain top to add eye-catching detail or just on its own as a necklace. Oh, Gok would be proud.

Bags

I could talk for hours about the humble bag. The Handbag, clutch, satchel, tote, shopper, bum-bag even rucksack (see below) all have a place in my wardrobe. I think what sets them apart for me, is the fact that they are practical, and if something is both practical and nice to look at, it is stylish.

My bag broke on Tuesday and although it is definitely mend-able it made me realise I need a new one. One which does not cripple me or break when I fill it with my 'essentials'. Here's my bag in action (papped by the style scout, please excuse the cockerel-eyes, bit pissed)

Anyways, I wanna talk about the NEW bag I want. Well I say new I do actually mean old of course. I want a rucksack, a lovely worn, tan leather rucksack. Soft and lived-in, but strong enough to hold books and massive bottles of water. Its also got to have wide straps for good support and extra pockets with little buckles but without being too bulky and masculine. Basically i want this one on Ebay but at £31 and two days to go, it might be out of my price range. I'll keep my eyes peeled...

Jewellery

The power of jewellery is a relatively recent discovery for me. Ridiculous considering Ive been styling for over three years. A statement necklace, some interesting earrings, even a quirky ring can really transform an outfit. I have a very small collection of jewellery (which i hope to expand) but the jewellery I own, I LOVE and much of it has sentimental value. I am sporting a new pair of Jaeger tortoise shell hoops at the moment, somehow chavvy and chic at the same time.

I lost my favourite ring in April (a chunky, amber, cubed thing from H&M, a piece of tat really, but it stopped people in the street it was so cool) and I have been searching for a replacement every since.

In the August edition of Vogue the jewellery in the fashion feature caught my eye: Lola Rose. Slightly more pricey than H&M but my god, worth it. The gems almost look like sweets, good enough to eat. My favourite is the 'Leslie' in terracotta quartzite, yeah shit name but its flippin beautiful and kind of resembles my lost ring :(

Summer Shoot: PREVIEW

I will soon have my latest shoot up on the website but here's a small selection of shots before the final retouches:

The story has a 1970s feel; strong colours and bold prints, flares, maxi lengths, beads, big shades and chunky cork wedges. After trying a few different coloured backgrounds we decided on white. The shots looked more slick and clean against the stark white backdrop.

Really enjoyed working with this team, thanks as always to Linda (photographer) and lovely to meet and work with Gayle (hair and make-up) and Imogen our beautiful model. The full story with finished photos will be up within the next few weeks.

Havaianas News

Havaianas, famous for their flip flops, have created a new range of trainers. I like them a lot.

Spring shoot

Here are a few photos from the last shoot I did in February. I cannot put them up on the website just yet (technical problems) so I thought I'd showcase some of them here instead.

Jessie Mae Shoot

Jessie Mae is a new trainer label by designer Brian Morton. These are a few pics I took on my camera phone on the shoot yesterday. I should have the proper pics by photographer Leo Cackett, up on my website soon. The snood and hat (styled like a turban) are made by a small indie label PandaCraft.

Illness/ Pastel Shoot/ Stella M./ Maxi Pattern

Due to illness I didn't manage to do my shoot BUT instead I'll be doing it on 7th Feb which gives me even more time to prep. After finding a lemon blouse in my favourite (secret) charity shop I had the idea that I could do the entire shoot using charity shop/ second hand/ found or homemade clothes and accessories. This is proving pretty tricky but I do still have 12 days to search and sew. The blouse I've bought reminds me of this Stella McCartney SS2010 look. I'm going to replace the buttons to make it look more special. Instead of a denim skirt I'd team it with some pale blue denim cut-offs.

Also I got my maxi skirt pattern in the post last week. I thought, how hard can it be to follow a simple pattern? HARD. But I like a challenge..

Haberdashery Haven

Whilst looking for lace and feathers for my shoot this Sunday I came across these two excellent haberdasheries:
www.habbyworld.co.uk is incredibly cheap and postage only £2! I've ordered some lace trims.

http://www.josyrose.com/index.aspx#top has some beautiful trinkets (I especially like the feather trimmings) but beware, there is a £5 minimum spend.

Today I'm off to visit my current favourite haberdashery, Frankle Trimmings. It's enormous, I could lose hours in there just admiring the 12-foot high corridors of buttons.

Slacks

Been looking for some men's slacks since I first saw Audrey wearing some vintage Chanel ones in the perfume ad. Realised my fella has some he hasn't worn in ages (the best things in life.. are stolen from your boyfriend). They may be a strange greenish-brown cordroy and slightly too big but i reckon they just might work worn slightly rolled up with ankle socks and the new lace-up, grey wedges I purchased from RI yesterday.. add a skinny leather belt, a vest and voila!
Best wait til it stops snowing tho eh :(
